Woodhaven is one of downriver's youngest cities. Incorporated in 1965, the city was formed and expanded by need for housing created by the Mobil Oil refinery and Ford Motor Stamping Plant and other industries. Eventually the city grew into an appealing residential, commercial and industrial city. The city is located directly west of Trenton, a city that shares its zip code with Woodhaven and portions of Brownstown Township. Woodhave was named as the 31st Safest city in Michigan ny the SafeWise Report (2014).

Woodhaven's housing is primarily single-family homes built mostly in the 1960's, with some newer subdivisions and condominium developments more recently built. Lots of retail and restaurant opportunities, particularly at the busy West Road / Allen Road corridor. The convenience of I-75 and US-24 make getting around Downriver very easy for Woodhaven residents.

Woodhaven owns 209 acres of parkland, which is continues to improve and add recreation opportunites for its residents. Civic Center park is located along Hall Road. New in 2014 is a skate park. A large sledding hill offers year-round fun. The city has recently added WOOFhaven Dog Park, a 2-acre, fended-in, off-leash dog park open year round. The Woodhaven Community Center is available to rent for special events. The city sponsors many classes, trips, and festivals throughout the year, including the Uncle Sam Jam, the Monster Mash 5k, an annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, and more. The city participates in a "shared services" program with Trenton, so residents can also enjoy access to Trenton's Veterans's Memorial Library and the pool at the Kennedy Recreation Center.
