Many of the original nineteenth-century homes can be found in the older part of the city, which is located along the banks of the Detroit River. The original part of the city offers a nice mix of newer and older homes, with many condominiums along the river and throughout the city. In the late 1950's, the city experienced a period of growth which resulted in the new construction of many ranch-style homes in the suburbs surrounding West Road, and which make up the majority of housing choices in this city today. More recently some newer subdivisions have been built, so you can still find larger, newly constructed homes available.
